Seeds of Renewal Exhibit Opening

Saturday, November 17, 2018

Join us for the opening celebration for the Vermont Historical Society’s newest exhibit, "Seeds of Renewal", which explores Abenaki agricultural history, cuisine, and ceremony. It will include a talk by Prof. Fred Wiseman on the amazing wealth of heretofore hidden historical knowledge of Indigenous Vermont cultivated plants, agricultural systems, the ceremonies of Sun, Rain, and Green Corn; as well as culinary traditions and seed saving technology. The lecture will be augmented by examples of Abenaki crops from the 2018 harvest, a walkthrough of the exhibit, and a book signing. Prof. Wiseman will be joined by Ms. Peggy Fullerton of Sagakwa Farm in New Hampshire, who has intimate experience with planting, growing and harvesting these invaluable ancestral reminders of our edible history. The exhibit is on view starting November 6 through April 2019.
