Welcome to Montpelier, VT, the smalled state capital in the country. Come celebrate with us!

Take the 50/50 Challenge! We challenge you to spend 50% of your gift budget in downtown! When you shop local, you are supporting your friends and neighbors. You can do it!

NOVEMBER

  • Month-long: Capital City Cash purchases at Shaw’s Supermarket on Main Street benefit the Montpelier Food Pantry – find out more HERE.
  • 11/29: Flannel Friday—wear your pajamas and score awesome deals! Montpelier’s down home version of Black Friday with your local independent retailers. Horse-drawn wagon rides from 11 to 3 pm and our tree lighting at 4 pm. More info HERE.
  • 11/30: Small Business Saturday – Downtown’s boutiques and restaurants offer great one-day deals to celebrate the strength of buying local.

DECEMBER

  • 12/1: Secret Sale Sunday – have you signed up for enewsletters of your favorite downtown retailers? They’ve got deals for you, but they’re only for those in the know, and they will be sent out via email ONLY.
  • 12/5: State House Tree Lighting – Join Governor Peter Shumlin in the annual lighting of the tree at the State House at 4:30 pm. Kurn Hattin choir will perform and at 5 pm, everyone will be invited inside for refreshments around the Victorian tree.
  • 12/6: Montpelier Art Walk – Stroll through downtown at your own pace and view the work of some of the best working artists in Central Vermont on this self-guided tour from 4 to 8 pm. More HERE.
  • 12/7: Family Downtown Day – Cookie decorating with the chefs of NECI at 11 am, horse drawn wagon rides from 11 am to 3 pm, and Santa’s arrival shortly thereafter, all at City Center.
  • 12/10 through 12/24: Free Parking – at all 2-hour metered locations, for up to 2 hours at a time, for your shopping convenience. Normal parking rules apply.
  • 12/10 through 12/24: Late Hours – want a more leisurely shopping experience? Need personal assistance? Looking to avoid the crowds? Come downtown during our later hours and we’ll help you with your gift shopping needs.
  • 12/13 through 12/15: Montpelier Craft and Art Weekend – celebrate handmade holidays by coming into town for the artful and unique crafts at Planting Hope’s Solidarity Fair, the Touch of Vermont Craft Fair, and the Montpelier Senior Activities Center Craft Fair, along with other family fun the whole weekend..
  • 12/31: New Year’s Eve – Celebrate the close of another year with your friends and neighbors. More info HERE.
