Shift Meals

Shift Meals with Skinny Pancake

With thousands losing jobs across Vermont, and state food shelves inundated with people to feed, ShiftMeals provides nourishing meals for those in need. The Skinny Pancake will serve anyone and everyone who needs a meal: laid-off restaurant workers, musicians, artists, gig workers, farmers, anyone affected by this crisis. You might not have the cash, you might not have access to the store, it doesn’t matter, if you need help, they’re here for you. They also share meals through food shelves and community meal sites.  As long as possible, ShiftMeals is here to weave our community of farmers and eaters together. Get a meal for yourself, meals for your employees, or donate here.

Neighbors Helping Neighbors with Union Mutual

Union Mutual, a property-casualty insurance carrier founded in 1874 in on the premise of neighbors helping neighbors, has been purchasing 100 meals/week from two local restaurants: Pinky’s on State and Langdon Street Tavern. These two well-loved establishments have then donated the meals to our neighbors in need: Langdon Street Tavern to the Good Samaritan Haven, which has expanded its operations to help our homeless neighbors stay safe during the Stay Safe, Stay Home orders and Pinky’s to nursing home and other healthcare workers in and around central Vermont.

In response to Union’s posting about these projects on social media, their neighbors at National Life Group and Northfield Savings Bank graciously, enthusiastically and generously partnered with us and agreed to double their purchases, resulting in an additional 300 meals per week to our central Vermont neighbors – exactly the domino effect Union Mutual thought may be possible.

Posts from the deliveries can be found on the Union Mutual Facebook page:

Barr Hill Hand Sanitizer

Hand Sanitizer by Barr Hill

Since the beginning of the COVID-19 Pandemic, Barr Hill has been working diligently to make hand sanitizer for healthcare professionals across the state of Vermont and beyond. In early April they shipped more than 1,200 gallons of hand sanitizer for statewide distribution to all of Vermont’s hospitals.

Although their priority will continue to be supplying medical professionals with hand sanitizer they are now in the position to accept orders from individuals. Due to extremely high demand average order processing time is two weeks. Want to help the brave people on the front lines of COVID-19 get the hand sanitizer they need? Make a donation and Barr Hill will send hand sanitizer to first responders, nurses and doctors.

Montpelier Porchtraits: A benefit for Good Samaritan Haven

While we shelter in place, why not donate something for those with no place to call home (and get a family portrait in the bargain)?

If you are in Montpelier and donate $50 or more to Good Samaritan Haven, StoryWorkz Photography will come by (of course maintaining a very safe distance) and create a fun Porchtrait of you and your family in memory of this “special” at-home time.

Pick a time and make your donation all with just a few clicks here:

VSECU is covering the fees, so 100% of the money you pay for this sticker will be used to eliminate interest costs on their Member Emergency Loan.
